Ok since I was in charge of the rehearsal dinner (or should I say my mother was in charge) I decided to make it fun and laid back so we planned a backyard BBQ style rehearsal dinner. After all the practicing and stressing on who stands where and when to say what I figured it would be nice to just unwind also since we were having an indoor ceremony and reception the outdoor BBQ should be cool!!
Most of my family was traveling from out of town were coming from a distance to attend our wedding, a nice barbecue was just what we needed to be able to meet, visit, and chat without the stress of the formal outfits and etiquette rules. The Barbeque People (http://chicagobbqbarbequepigroastscateringcaterers.com/index.html) catered the affair they had several options and worked within our budget.
A friend of mine graciously offered up his parent’s backyard for our rehearsal dinner. Whatever the case choose a location that offers a nice outdoor space for grilling etc. Keep in mind you may have to rent tables, chairs, plates, silverware, a cleaning service etc. if you do not choose to have your rehearsal dinner in a restaurant but often times your caterer can provide these items as well, ours did. A BBQ is not complete without ice-cold beer or lemonade/ice tea (for non-drinkers) or something to get the party started, so we decided to do a few signature drinks that involved grey goose and tequila!! As for music we just kept it simple by burning a couple of CD’s of our favorite music and had it playing during the par-tay! Turned out to be an awesome time!!!!!
The best advice I could give is, don’t forget to include a map of the location in your invitations like we did. Some of our guests (who were just coming to the dinner and not the church rehearsal) were 45min. late and missed out on the Happy Hour!!!
