My wife and I decided on Italy because neither of us had been there before and we both really wanted to go. You can't find a more romantic and historical place in the world. (We went in early January, it was chilly but not too bad)

To be honest, my wife did most of the planning...she was on top of everything. She loves traveling and planning trips so I just let her do her thing. She browsed Fodors and Trip Advisor a lot but also used a great Italy travel book by Rick Steves. He focuses on traveling in many parts of Europe and gives great affordable hotel/restaurant recommendations. He is very detailed about everything and helps you avoid the tourist traps. Highly recommended.

The trip was unbelievable. We spend about 2 weeks in Italy, starting our tour in Rome. The Coliseum and Vatican were definitely must sees. We spent about 2 days in each location...also hitting Florence (very cool town, great history, museums), Cinque Terre (5 towns along the mountainous west coast...some of our best pictures are from this area; and awesome seafood), Torino (winter olympics were about to start), Venice (it was snowing when we arrived and we got to see the Olympic torch) and Milan (was fun but wasn't our favorite).

We will definitely go back someday and check out southern Italy! The honeymoon made up for all the crazy wedding planning.
