I planned a date for us, saying that it was for her birthday and her going away celebration. (She was leaving for six weeks in Spain in June) She knew it was a big date, but she had no idea it was this big! She thought her birthday and a trip to Europe called for an extravagant evening, so I totally suprised her! We got ready to go out, and I did not rush her at all! We had dinner at The Olde Pink House, downtown Savannah, and it was the most outstanding meal. Great service, great food, and perfect atmosphere. After dinner, I took her outside where a carriage was waiting on us. The carriage had roses decorating it, and she was so happy to have a carriage tour! We had engraved wine glasses with Meinhardt Vineyard (in Statesboro) wine. She was also given a bouquet of roses and other flowers during our tour. The tour guide let us talk more than she did, as we live in Savannah and know most of the history. The carriage dropped us off in city market, which suprised her. She thought we were going for dessert to her favorite bakery. I walked her over to the spot where I first told her I loved her two St. Patrick's Days ago. She then started to realize that something might be happening beyond her favorite chocolate torte...her heart was racing. Some older ladies stopped us because they thought we were adorable. They asked if we were sweethearts or married, and they asked all about us. Thankfully, they only kept us long enought to take a few photos of us. Once they had gone, I took her hands and asked if she knew where we were. She nervously replied, yes. I said "this is the first place that I told you I loved you, and this is where I want to ask you to spend the rest of your life with me". I got down on one knee, pulled out the ring box, and before I could open it or finish saying "Will you marry me?". She said "Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!" She grabbed the ring box from my hand (overwhelmed and excited in a blur) and put the ring on herself! She hugged me and screamed, right in the middle of City Market. The ladies came back, making a big fuss- taking more pictures. She said "oh my gosh" a thousand times as I led her toward Bay Street. We walked into Churchhill's where her mom, my mom, my brother, and sister-in-law waited. She ran to them, screaming, because they had never been together in Savannah at once before, and she had no idea that they were there! It was the most perfect night, ending with her making me go to Walmart to buy a vase for her flowers. Afterwards she told me, "I will never forget your perfect planning and sweet romance that night!" It's over, what a relief.
