Tis' the season to get hitched
Dude, it's official. You've gone and popped the question, she said "Hell Yeah," and now you're on your way to getting hitched. Man, your world is about to be turned completely upside down! But, before that happens, I recommend that you take a deep breath, stock up the fridge with plenty of beer, and prepare to grin and bear it for the next year while your bride to be lives out her childhood dream of being the bride of all BRIDES!!!
Now, while most of the wedding plans will be made without your input (to your everlasting joy!) There are a few details that you will want to weigh in on. The first of these being the date of this blessed event.
So sit back and chill while I tell you everything you need to know for when your sweet bride to be asks you, "Honey, how about a spring wedding?"
... and leading off - Summer
When you are deciding when the big day will be, keep in mind that you are not the only one out there about to take the plunge. And, whether you knew it or not, there really is such a thing as a "wedding season." I know, its crazy but, chicks LOVE this stuff and they take it every bit as seriously as we do the NFL playoffs.
So when wedding season hits, typically late-Spring through Summer, you are going to be fighting for the top spots. Meaning all the best places will be harder to stake your claim on, and they are going to cost more than they do any other time of the year.
To avoid the tragedy of not being able to secure a venue in the season of your choice, either plan earlier (as in shoot for next summer) or go for another season. The upside of going for a summer wedding is that it is not the peak season for all the great honeymoon spots. So you may end up shelling out more for the wedding, but you can make up for it in the honeymoon!
... moving on - Fall
While I can think of several reasons as to why you should consider a fall wedding, the biggest one of all is that it's not so bleeping HOT! Think about it. Do you really want to spend all day standing around in a monkey suit while your photographer snaps seven thousand pictures, great times, right? Probably not!
In addition, all the venues that your fiancé is drooling over will be easier to book, and since the kids are back in school, the honeymoon will be even easier to book. BUT and that's a BIG Butt, (or rather BUT) every Man knows that these months fall within one of the most important times of year. Are you ready for some Football??!!! Don't panic though, you just have to be creative about it and plan the big day when your team has drawn the big by. And, in an emergency, they make some killer pocket sized TVs now. Just don't get caught!
... batting third - Winter
When I say winter, I am talking November through February. The advantages here are the fact that fewer people are getting married during this time. Truly, other than December, these months should be pretty wide open when it comes to booking wedding vendors. And, since they aren't in such high demand, the prices can be better too.
Another bonus to getting married on or around holiday season is that it's a time when families are generally getting together anyways. So it's easier and cheaper on those you want to attend the big day. The other big advantage here is that when your anniversary falls on a holiday, you never have to stress about remembering it. BONUS!
... and in Cleanup - Spring
I must say - there is something about getting married in June that makes women crazy. I don't really understand it, but you're sure to hear the phrase "June Bride" at least a time or two. And I have to agree that Spring can be a great time for a wedding. The weather's not too hot, and the flowers are kind of nice. (Not that I would EVER admit that for real!) But I do have two words for you - March Madness! Let's not go down that road, appeal to your bride to be let her know that this may cost you a couple of cool points, after all spring is more than just one month out of the year, exercise all your options.
If you are thinking about spring you need to keep in mind that there are several religious holidays, such as Easter, Passover, and Lent, during that time. These will be important dates to many of your guests and you may want to avoid them.
Well my friend, we have hit the high points and you have your game plan. Now, it's time to work your charm and convince your Bride that the date you end up with really was HER idea. (This is KEY!) Then she can't complain when she realizes that you managed to plan your wedding around every major sporting event the world has to offer!!!
