To hire or not to hire.
Why hire a planner? Well, that's the question isn't it?
When a couple decides to take the plunge into wedded bliss, the reality sets in about where and how to begin. All kinds of questions come into play, finding the perfect venue, finding the best DJ or band, not to mention negotiating vendor contracts and understanding how much all this is actually going to cost. And soon, (very, Very, VERY SOON!) your fiancé's mind will warp into full-blown wedding planning mode. She will start to obsess about colors and dresses and venues and napkins and ten thousand other things that you can't comprehend.
Let's face it, when it comes to a wedding there is quite a bit that guys just aren't interested in. So hiring a wedding planner is probably the best decision you and your honey can make or maybe the best gift you can give her. A planner is there to help get everything accomplished while sticking to your budget and timeline. Not only will they take the stress away from you and your Bride-to-be, a good planner has the ability to negotiate contracts to make sure you get the most bang for your buck - they can be well worth the investment!
What to expect.
Any quality planner will sit down with you (mainly your Bride) and ask what it is you want to accomplish for this blessed occasion! What type of event are you looking to have? Is it a party, an elegant soiree, or an intimate destination gathering? They will discuss the budget bottom line and/or how the costs will be divided? What is included in the budget, the rehearsal dinner the honeymoon etc. Whatever it is, the planner is there to take you through it every step of the way. Accordingly find a coordinator you feel a connection with so you feel confidant that she has both your interests at heart.
Added bonus:
1. Negotiate contracts and pricing to ensure you get the most for your money
2. Keeps you on track with the budget, timeline and related tasks
3. Assists in selecting a menu that suits the taste and style of your event
4. Aids in décor and design essentials
5. Plans and directs rehearsal logistics ensuring everyone is where they need to be etc.
Your planner will be there until the cake is cut and the final goodbyes have been said - I mean they can do it ALL!
Talking dollars and cents...
There are two main ways that planners get paid:
1. Planners offer flat rate fee services. These types of packages include a specific amount of hours dedicated to specific activities. If cost is an issue I would suggest using this ala carte method of service model.
2. Another form of payment is a percentage fee. Planners using this method generally charge anywhere from 10 - 15% of the total budget for their services. This method is primarily used when a planner is orchestrating an elaborate or large ceremony and reception, but not always.
While there are many different types of pricing packages you will find that most planners offer both flat fee and percentage based packages with a variation of services that will suit your needs.
Wedding planners are no longer employees of the rich and famous. With affordable pricing, they're now the norm for couples of all walks of life. If she's overwhelmed with all that needs to be done for the wedding, do your B2B(Bride to be) a favor and hire a wedding planner. Then you'll be able to watch the game in peace!!!
